Nintendo released an Indie World Direct the morning of April 14, 2021, which lasted about 20 minutes, and featured developers from all over the world.

Everything you missed can be found right here, so read on to discover what indies are coming to the Nintendo Switch.

ROAD 96 (Later this year)

A procedurally generated narrative game, you’ll play as the teenager Alex, who will experience thousands of potential paths as this story unfolds. You’ll meet many different characters who may help, or hinder you on your road trip.

 

Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield (May 19)

A 3D side scrolling Runner, as the main character you will run through a futuristic Tokyo-style Detroit on your way to try to save the future. As Wally, you’ll run, jump and duck around obstacles to the music of Daniel Wilkins. A demo is now available on the Nintendo EShop.

 

Last Stop (July 2021)

From AnnaPurna Interactive; A third-person adventure that tells interconnected stories featuring multiple main characters. Set in present-day London, you’ll discover how magic can be found in the mundane.

 

Hindsight (Later this year)

A second title shown by AnnaPurna Interactive. In this narrative-exploration title, you’ll follow the entirety of a woman’s life as she looks to make sense of everything. You’ll take a look into the past with physical everyday objects, and take a peek into the future, and unravel what this story holds.

 

OlliOlli World (winter 2021)

A side-scrolling skateboard action-platformer that features multiple paths to discover. You’ll take winding paths and learn to master various tricks along the way. The game features side quests and new characters to discover.

 

The Longing (Later today)

Developed by Studio Seufz, you play a lonely servant who must wait for the inevitable return of the king. How long? 400 days. In real time. The game is beautiful, with a detailed hand-drawn art style. You’ll discover caves, time-based puzzles, and an expansive world while killing time waiting for the king’s return.

 

There is No Game: Wrong Dimension (later today)

This 2020 puzzle adventure game is finally making its way to Nintendo Switch. This point-and-click comedy will have you figuring out just what is going on as the game tries to keep you from playing it.

 

TMNT Shredder’s revenge (Later this year)

Published by the makers of Streets of Rage 4, this game features a pixelated art style that pays homage to the arcade beat ‘em ups of the 80’s. This side-scrolling fighter features the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a new game with a brand fresh coat of paint and I can guarantee more pizza.

 

Cris Tales (July 20)

Inspired by JRPGs, the combat of this game will have you shifting time, with the ability to make enemies younger to more easily defeat them, as well as other abilities. Explore a dark fairytale world, and stop the empress from destroying it.

 

Getsu Fuma Den: Undying Moon (2022)

Sequel to the 1987 Famicom game, this hack-and-slash rogue lite features intense combat and boss battles. You’ll explore the Underworld with a vast range of weapons and abilities to continue your progression.

Aztecha Forgotten Gods (Fall 2021)

You play a woman who battles colossal deities as you explore a vast mezzo-American metropolis. Along the way, you’ll uncover ancient secrets and learn new abilities.

 

Skul: The Hero Slayer (summer 2021)

Created by a development club at Chonnam National University in South Korea, this action rogue-lite features Skul. Your task is to single-handedly take on the Imperial Army and rescue the king from captivity. Use different heads to swap out abilities to progress. The game features 2D platforming and combat with a unique pixelated art style.

Oxenfree II Lost Signals (Later this year)

Set 5 years after OXENFREE, you’ll guide Riley in this supernatural coming of age story, and maybe even communicate with some extraterrestrials.
